One Day Seminar on Rule of Law in ASEAN in Bangkok, Thailand

The Human Rights Resource Centre for ASEAN (HRRC), together with the University of Chulalongkorn, will hold a one-day seminar on the Rule of Law in ASEAN and Thailand in Bangkok on 5 March 2012 at 9.00 AM. This seminar is the first of the planned roadshow on Rule of Law in ASEAN.

HRRC will also present its Baseline Study on Rule of Law in the ASEAN Region. A discussion on the rule of law situation in Thailand will follow. The HRRC’s study itself covers key issues associated with rule of law and good governance as they relate to the protection and promotion of human rights in ASEAN member states. It includes country reports on all ten ASEAN Member States and is the Centre’s first research project. Researchers from at least nine of the ten ASEAN Member States have contributed to the study. 

Representatives from embassies, senior officials from the Supreme Court of Thailand, the National Human Rights Commission, the Prosecutor General's Office, as well as representatives from international organisations, CSOs, and law students are expected to attend.  

WHAT: Media are invited to attend the seminar, with registration at 9.00, followed with opening remarks and keynote address. The first session will be on the rule of law in ASEAN. The afternoon session will be dedicated to the situation of rule of law in Thailand.
