Jakarta, 11 July 2013 — Building on its first publication, Rule of Law for Human Rights in the ASEAN: A Baseline Study, HRRC has been holding activities to increase awareness and encourage discussion on rule of law in the region. One such event, “Rule of Law in ASEAN” Presentation of the Findings of a Baseline Study, was held on 23 July 2012 at the Senate in Phnom Penh.
The event was supported by Konrad-Adenauer Foundation, War Crimes Studies Center, U.C. Berkeley, and East-West Center. Among the participants were members of the Senate and the National Assembly, judges, prosecutors, representatives from the Council for Legal and Judicial Reform, members of law faculties and NGO workers. In total, around 100 individuals attended the event.
According to the Summary Report on the event, “A presentation in Phnom Penh, at the time of the country’s tenure as ASEAN chair, could help to provide a new impetus for legal and judicial reform in Cambodia.”
